Thank you bro, for speaking truth to power. I would like to add another article to this discussion. "You are being lied to about pirates," by Johann Hari in the Independent. The illegal toxic dumping and fishing in Somali waters, starving the locals who depend on fishing for survival, forcing some to take to the seas for protection. Somali used to export food, now they import everything. Our ignorance and passive acceptance has left us domicile and powerless and, yes, scared. I speak to myself as well when I say that without execution there is no liberation, or should I say elevation because words like revolution and liberation tends to make us withdraw. What did Gil Scott Heron say, .....are scared of what?
As always, Love you bro.

On a personal note, I have had the opportunity to do business with a west african brother. For years he worked with me as a independent contractor with my business. He saved his money relentlessly. Now he has his own business which I invested (It was really a loan)in from the start. He repaid me and I shared with him my concerns from a investment standpoint. I invested again, this time I'm seeing a return. We did all the above with no more than a "Gentleman Agreement." He shared with me that many Africans don't trust African Americans. We have invested many hours in conversation on many subjects. I admire his work ethic and he admire mines. Anyway, I tried to show him a black man who word is bond (trust). Im with Cedric, let's roll up our sleeves and stop pontificating!!! When I do get the chance to go to Africa guess who I'm rolling with? PEACE RoShon.

Awesome piece. Your keen observations made me reflect on some personal experiences with Africans living in America. A Sudanese friend recently invited me - and asked me to bring friends - to sit in on a local meeting of Sudanese living in the Philadelphia region. The meeting was addressed, among others, by the Sudanese Ambassador. The trouble was the meeting was done in Arabic. I promptly got up and went to my friend and requested a translator for me and my friends. The person speaking was translated, subsequent speakers, no dice. That was like being in Africa w/o the plane ride.

During my sister's wedding reception that included many of her Ivorian husbands friends (also from the Ivory Coast), the interesting thing that I discovered was the only time they talk about Africa is with their fellow Africans. You'd think enlightening the Diaspora would be important. That seems the farthest thing from their minds.

in addition three of my father's siblings and one of my best friends growing up married Liberians. You know we've yet to have a serious discussion about Liberia.

My observation is we talk about unity with Africa and have yet to unite with the Africans living on our American soil. And the Africans feel a need to insulate themselves from us. Bro Jehron
