Peace..I must say I agree with a majority of the article. There most def needs to be new "LEADERS" within the hip hop
"culture". Like you said the last 10 years haven't brought upon us any new leaders built for this NWO music industry an world we are living in today.
You forgot to mention who is really running the show and pulling the strings of these puppets whom are merely pawns and toms. Do these people care about anything other then money and there own Diaspora if even that?
Knowledge Reigns Supreme and at 43 years old KRS is still at the forefront of real live hip hop,and Still doing his thing and bringing tha real and dropping knowledge 2 all who care 2 listen..
Who else can carry the torch, Hip Hop in it's essence it needs revolutionists to revolt against this current sheeple mentality that has always existed but now festers in the majority of minds and most importantly the youths. TI and Wayne belong in jail and for a hell of a lot longer than these fake thugs should be. I for one don't want these clowns influencing anymore youths and disenfranchising them even further. For the crimes these fools committed the average person would get life. T.I. gets less than a year P.C. and a TV show.
That's not real life thats a fantasy world.
I also think the UK is the next big thing not just London..there making original music ..thats why.. i've been up on both Canada and UK for atleast 15 years..
But next big thing Canada ? not gonna happen it already would have,Just look at a map..Nuff talent out way b4 2009 ,and the world don't need no Drake knockoffs..
Big ups to Kardi,Sauks and the whole
Circle Fam.. S.L.U.G. and Camoflauge is the future of runnin things in T.O. and AYAH should be a R&B star

Once again Bro. Cedric, you've accurately described the landscape in front of us and laid out some directives that we need to take if we are going to survive America's Fall. Also check out K'Naan's latest series of mixtapes. The Messengers.
J.Period & K'NAAN present their final offering: The Messengers (Deluxe Edition), a long-play version of their epic trilogy, including previously unreleased bonus tracks and selected 12" singles. Taking hip hop fans on an unprecedented journey into the legacies of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan, The Messengers has racked up over 85,000 downloads/plays in only a few short weeks online, making this mixtape a bonafide phenomenon. The Messengers is already being called “one of the year’s best albums or mixtapes” by top hip hop journalists, including HipHopDX.com.

Hi and Selam Cedric, props on the article. This is probably the most reflected, smartest and most sophisticated article I´ve been reading about the music I love since I´ve been listening to PE, Fat Boys and 2Life.
To understand the future it is very important to understand the past. Therefor I will never be as fundamental as an US citizen. The scandalous groups are quite responsible for hip hop going abroad (2Life, Cypress Hill), so this is what I´ve been brought up with.
Thinking about the future is very tempting. How many stories do I know about mythological future telling? Plenty. Do they all have a happy end? No.
Human kind is so diffuse nowadays its hard to tell if it´s going to be one outcome or all of them. But still, I loved your article!
The only problem I have is, when I was reading your article, I can not feel the Toronto thing. From my perspective (the european one), it looks a little bit different. I do love Drake, but for the present day, thats about it concerning Canada. I dont think that what the world geosocialy thinks and feels about Canada is homogene with what is profitable in the music industry. We europeans understand the Canadian mentality as calm, sincere and friendly. Good for concious rap, but bad for the masses and majors companys though. Especially the youth needs dirty stuff to shock their parent generation.
I give you your point on LONDON! Avangardistic flavours, no music-fashism, great multiculure, all that African and European influence. I beleive that could score. On the other hand the UK always lost vs the US. Well my future hat doesnt really fit today. Anyway..
I talked to Bennie Man one day on the Summer Jam in 2001 in cologne. I had that one in a lifetime chance to show him my music (German Concious Rap), and I will never forget what he said: "Me love yo music, but if yo wanne make sum money, yo make english songs!"
Till today, I beleive that it was more than just this man talking to me.
What do you think Cedric, will non-english rap music ever shine internationally like Italian Pop (Eros Ramzotti), or French Chansons (Edit Piaff) for example?
I would love to get an answer (you got my mail;)
Best Regards - Yunus Arno

Good point EPROPS. I remember that. Toronto? I never would of considered that. Appears logical the more I think about it though. I may be visiting there in Dec. This is interesting and is kind of resembling what happened to jazz. Though an original American art form, it is now being sustained in Europe and redefined the Nordic countries. The innovation they are bringing to the art is incredible. The jazz purist may not like that one...lol. I wonder how the hip-hop purist will respond to the expansion...

The Anti-Thesis to the Hip Hop music industry, with all the elemens which you state will be required of Hiphop in this generation was ALREADY in formation and PRESENT during the Campaign For Dignity being waged by Minister Conrad Muhammad which was happening concurrently to the Hiphop summit in 2001, and was SHUNNED.
